College composition, literature, and French. Translation of French fiction and poetry.
Yves Cloarec was born in Martinique, French West Indies. Inside My Own Skin, Yves’ translation of French author Guillaume de Fonclare’s prize-winning Dans ma peau (2010), was published by hanging Loose Press in May 2014. In addition to a Queens College MFA in Literary Translation & Creative Writing, he holds a French Baccalauréat degree and a Bachelor’s in Political Science and English from Columbia University.
Cloarec has been an Information Technology Consultant and Database Management Software Designer since 1995. In the belief that translation can be a stopgap to the extinction of a culture, in spring 2014 he began studying Breton—the endangered language of his ancestors—with an eye to translating some of its previously untranslated medieval texts. Yves lives with his wife and two children in Ridgewood, on the Queens side of the Brooklyn-Queens border.
