Research Interests

I write creative nonfiction in a mixture of prose and poetry. I like to experiment with language while writing about identity, immigration, family, lineage, and more. My book, When My Mother is Most Beautiful is forthcoming in fall 2023 and will be published by Hanging Loose Press. I am also a translator from Japanese to English.

Teaching Interests

I frequently teach undergraduate writing classes such as English 110 and English 115. My syllabi usually focus on language. As a bilingual and literary translator, I invite students to think about how language affects the way we think and the way we write. I encourage multilingual thinking and writing in my classes and to use all our languages to express our thoughts. I also often teach English 210W, Introduction to Creative Writing. This course explores four genres: poetry, play, fiction, and nonfiction and their endless range of forms. I challenge students to push boundaries, think differently, and break away from traditions and conventions.
