QC’s own John Tytell will be appearing at Strand Books on Tuesday night, as part of a Beat-filled talkback for the new book Bop Apocalypse, by Martin Torgoff.

Event Description:

From the birth of jazz in New Orleans to the spread of drugs in Harlem, the culture of music and drugs has been a tale of mutually informative symbiosis. From their introduction to America through the personalities, performances, and writings of the Beats, among others, recreational drugs have taken root in and taken their toll on creators like the jazz innovators of the mid-20th century. Author Martin Torgoff weaves together this history of drugs, jazz, and race in a beautiful, smooth fashion, as it’s never been told before.
