I want to announce some recent grants received by department faculty:

Duncan Faherty is a participant in ARCScholar, a digital publishing cooperative based at Texas A&M University. ARCScholar has been awarded a NHPRC-Mellon Digital Edition Publishing Cooperatives Grant for $75,000. This grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will be used to plan the development of ARCScholar and to form its governance structure. ARCScholar will participate with other grant recipients in creating a system of cooperatives for publishing and sustaining digital editions.

Maaza Mengiste has received a $25,000 NEA grant to begin preliminary research on her third novel, tentatively titled A Brief Portrait of Small Deaths.

Talia Schaffer is the recipient of as Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellow for the academic year 2018-19 at the Princeton University Center for Human Values. Fellows devote an academic year in residence at Princeton to research and writing about topics involving human values in public and private life.

Roger Sedarat has received a $35,000 grant from The Atlantic philanthropies Director/Employee Designated Gift Fund. This award will be used to support a series of dramatic performances, based on my recent poetry collection Haji as Puppet: an Orientalist Burlesque, which interrogate and challenge the western gaze toward the Middle East.
