May 3rd – What Do Comics Help Us Know?

Please join us for a roundtable conversation among creators, scholars, and teachers of graphic novels: Josh Neufeld, Caroline Hong, William Orchard, with moderator Jason Tougaw.

* Josh Neufeld is a Visiting Professor in the Queens College MFA in Creative Writing and Translation. He is the writer and artist of the nonfiction graphic narrative A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge and the illustrator The Influencing Machine: Brooke Gladstone on the Media.

* Caroline Kyungah Hong is an Assistant Professor in English at Queens College, where she serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Queens College English MA Program. She has published articles on Asian American literature and pop culture, especially graphic narratives, and is currently finishing a book on Asian American comedy.

* William Orchard is an Assistant Professor in the English Department at Queens College and is currently completing a book titled Drawn Together: Politics, Pedagogy, and the Latino/a Graphic Novel.

* Jason Tougaw is an Associate Professor of English at Queens College, CUNY (The City University of New York) and the author of two forthcoming books, The One You Get: Portrait of a Family Organism (Dzanc Books) and Touching Brains: Literary Experiments in 21st-Century Neuromania (Yale University Press).
